RIVERA & RIVERA GALLERY is pleased to announce its inaugural exhibition by Miguel Osuna. LANDSCAPES-SPEEDSCAPES-AND-OTHER-ESCAPES, is a survey from the artistEUR s production of the last five years. Included are pieces from his CALIFORNIA SERIES, IMAGINARY LANDSCAPES, LIQUID LANDSCAPES groups and a selection from the newly released SHORT COMMUTE SERIES. Additionally, THE DARK ROOM, an annex to the main gallery, introduces the first of its Emerging Artists Series, featuring winners Quincy Dein and Nathan Doctor of the Photography Competition conducted through the Roski School of Fine Arts at the University of Southern California. The exhibitions will run from December 17, 2009 to January 20, 2010.
Osuna's work has been included in the exhibition EURSalon Ibero-Americano - 21st Century Ibero-American ArtEUR, a survey of contemporary artists from Latin America, Spain and Portugal, at the Katzen Arts Center of American University in Washington, DC. His paintings were also part of the exhibition "Espejos [Mirrors]", a survey of the work of contemporary Mexican artists living in the United States, presented by the Instituto Cultural de Mexico, in Washington DC, 2005.EUR December, 2006, he presented his solo exhibition EURLandscapeEUR, at the Mazatlán Museum of Art.EUR Born and raised in Mazatlán, Mexico. EUROsuna received a degree in Architecture from U.A.G. in Guadalajara, Mexico.EUR He has presented numerous solo exhibitions throughout California and his native Mexico, and participated in group shows in both the US and Europe.
THE DARK ROOM, an annex to the main gallery, introduces the first of its Emerging Artists Series, featuring winners Quincy Dein and Nathan Doctor of the Photography Competition conducted through the Roski School of Fine Arts at the University of Southern California. All of the proceeds from the sales of The Dark Room will benefit Operation USA. This non-profit organization helps communities alleviate the effects of disasters, disease and endemic poverty throughout the world by providing privately-funded relief, reconstruction and development aid. It provides material and financial assistance to grassroots organizations that promote sustainable development, leadership and capacity building, income generating activities, provide education and health services, and advocate on behalf of vulnerable people.
About the Gallery
Founder Carlos Rivera created his gallery as a space to showcase the work of established, contemporary artists along side promising new talent. In that effort, Carlos joined forces with critically acclaimed Chef Owner John Rivera Sedlar of Rivera Restaurant to combine and complement their interests in art, culture, and creativity. This collaboration celebrates their shared cultural heritage while contributing to the dynamic and every-growing environment of downtown Los Angeles.
Rivera and Rivera then teamed up with Bryson Strauss of Strauss Fine Art to help further develop the curatorial vision for the gallery. Bryson Strauss is a long-time museum and gallery curator, writer and the founder of the L.A. Art Machine. He has exhibited widely and curated the work of internationally celebrated artists in the U.S. and abroad.
